Frequently Asked Questions
Account Summary
- What is an account summary?
- The account summary feature allows members to view their current
balance and the transactions that occurred within the past 12
months. Merck-Medco members can also update credit card information
and pay off any current balances.
- I paid my balance in full, yet I do not see this payment
reflected in my current balance?
- If you have paid your balance in full or in part within the
last 24 hours, your balance may not reflect this payment. Most
balance information is updated within 24 hours, so you should
allow 24 hours for your information to be updated. If it has been
more than 24 hours and your balance does not reflect your most
recent payment, please contact your Member Services representative
at your toll-free number.
- When I look at the Account Summary Details chart, I am only
able to click on some invoice numbers for further details. Why
might this be?
- The Account Summary Details chart includes all transactions
in your account for the past 12 months, both invoices and payments.
The Account Summary Details chart displays payment type without
any need to review additional screens. For invoices, members can
click on the invoice number to view the prescription (Rx) number(s),
patient name(s), plan paid amount and prescription (Rx) co-pay
amount for that transaction.
- Do I have to pay the entire current balance at once?
- While your entire balance ultimately must be paid, you do not
need to pay the entire amount at once. Rather, by selecting the
Pay Now option from the Balance Summary screen, you may
enter in the amount (if less than your complete balance) that
you wish to pay. Note: Most balance information is updated within
24 hours. Please allow 24 hours for your information to be updated
and to reflect your most recent payment.
- How safe is it for me to provide credit card information
on your site?
- Merck-Medco has gone to great length to provide secure commerce
transactions. Confidential information, such as credit card numbers,
are encrypted (scrambled) during transmission over the Internet
using the strongest form of encryption commercially available
today. Our Internet infrastructure has been designed and implemented
using the latest advances in commercially available security products,
which have been reviewed and approved by third-party security
experts, and are continually monitored for operational integrity.

In addition, transactions conducted with credit cards are protected by the Fair Credit Billing Act. Under this law if unauthorized usage of your credit card does occur, you are only liable for the first $50. You are also entitled to dispute charges, and temporarily withhold payment while an investigation is conducted by your creditor. Always be certain to consult your credit card provider for rules and procedures.
