Frequently Asked Questions

Member Numbers

Where do I find my member number?
There are a few places where you can find your member number. If you have a prescription Drug Identification Card issued by the Merck-Medco subsidiary PAID Prescriptions, this number can be found on your prescription benefit card.

If your plan has issued you a combined medical and prescription drug card, you may also find your member number on that card as well.

If you have previously filled a prescription through one of our mail service pharmacies, your member number can also be found on your refill slip.

The card and refill slip displayed above are samples only. Your card and refill slip may vary in design.

What is a member number?
Your member number identifies you as a covered individual of a plan administered by Merck-Medco Managed Care, L.L.C. Generally, your employer or health plan carrier chooses the number for each of its covered individuals. Your member number is a separate and distinct number from your group number, which in some cases may appear on your prescription benefit card. In most cases, your group number precedes your member number on your prescription benefit card.

I have two numbers on my prescription benefit card. Which one is my member number?
Merck-Medco uses two identification numbers to verify your benefits: a member number and a group number. In most cases, your group number precedes your member number on your prescription benefit card. Member numbers are often made up of all numeric digits and are usually nine to 10 characters long. Group numbers are often shorter and may contain both alpha and numeric characters.

My benefit card has a member number on it, but the member number on my refill label shows a zero first, followed by the member number shown on my benefit card. Which member number should I use?
In some cases, your refill slip may show a leading zero, followed by your actual member number. There is no need to enter the additional zero shown on your refill slip.
