Frequently Asked Questions
Prescription (Rx) Numbers
- Where can I find my prescription number?
- You can find your prescription number on your refill slip or prescription bottle.
Remember to enter all 12 digits listed as shown in the highlighted box
below. Do not enter any spaces or dashes between the 12 digits you
enter, regardless of whether a space or a dash appears on your refill slip
or bottle.

The refill slip and prescription label displayed above are samples only. Your refill slip and prescription label may vary in design.
- What if I do not have my prescription number?
- If you do not have a record of your prescription number, you will be unable to check the status of your prescription or refill your prescription online. You can find your prescription number on your refill slip or prescription bottle. Remember to enter all 12 digits listed as shown in the highlighted box below. Do not enter any spaces or dashes between the 12 digits you enter, regardless of whether a space or a dash appears on your refill slip or container. If you do not have your refill slip or the prescription bottle, please contact 1-800-262-7890.
- I am typing in my prescription number and it says it is invalid. Why?
- If you are receiving an invalid prescription number message, there's a chance you may be inputting it incorrectly. Remember, when asked for your prescription number in our online applications, there is no need to enter any spaces or dashes between the 12 digits of the prescription number, regardless of whether a space or a dash appears in the prescription number shown on your refill slip or prescription container. In addition, always verify that the prescription number you are using is for a prescription that is less than a year old. If it is older than one year, the prescription number may have expired and you may need to renew the prescription with your prescriber. Finally, doublecheck that the prescription number you are entering is a valid prescription number
previously dispensed by Merck-Medco Rx Services.
- Does my prescription number ever change?
- Your prescription number will change from time to time, especially if you are
taking medication on an ongoing basis. When your prescription(s) for
ongoing medications expire, your prescription number will change after your
prescriber writes a renewal prescription(s).
